Are you in the process of hiring a structural engineer? Or have you heard that a structural engineer’s main task is to see that building codes are met? How do you know if your structural engineer is doing a good job or not?

As long as the engineer is able to meet the requirements, it is also important that they have very good communication skills so that they can help you meet your building code goals. You can find out whether they have good communication skills by asking them questions, but it is also a good idea to get your architect to interview them for you so that you can find out if they are communicative or not.
Most of all, the structural engineer should know how to apply the building codes, so that they can be sure that they meet the code. They should also be able to refer to a number of books, magazines, and websites that can help them in finding ways to use the building codes properly.
