A pH Meter is essentially an instrument that measures the activity of hydrogen-ion in solutions that are water based. The alkalinity or acidity that is expressed is the pH. A pH meter indicates difference in the electrical potential that is present between a pH electrode and a reference electrode. A pH meter is also referred as “potentiometric pH meter.” It is widely used in various industries for applications like quality control and experiments in laboratories.
One should remember that the water has chemical reactions when it comes in contact with other substances – and this is directly related to the acidity of the water typically measured by the well known pH meter. It is critical to gain the knowledge of the pH level especially in areas of chemical laboratories.
The higher the pH the lower is the acidity and lower the pH higher is the acidity.

Water constantly changes due to its reaction with Sunlight, oil, dirt, cosmetics, rain or any other chemical that goes into it. A pH balanced swimming pool protects the swimmers, saves the plumbing, protects the pool shell by preventing damage caused by stains, build-ups and etching.
Wine or cheese making:
A pH meter is the most effective instrument to use during wine making to check the acidity level – as pH is a fundamental element in the wine making process. It is the pH level that has a strong influence on its oxidation, color, biological and chemical stability. It is the acidity that is checked by the pH meter that imparts the wine its crisp slightly tart taste on the pallet. The acid level can make a wine taste flat or too lemony.
All cheeses have to show a fairly narrow pH range so that it ripens normally that helps in its flavor or texture. For instance when you make mozzarella cheese the ideal pH level is 5.3.
Balanced Soil pH makes happier plants:
If the pH in the soil is too acid(low pH level) or alkaline (high pH level) the nutrients in the soil lock up or become unavailable. This is tested by a pH meter and can be corrected to unlock the nutrients already present. One needs to know which plants require alkaline and which require acidic pH level.
